51st Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation in Genova, Italy

Several members of the FOIE GRAS project consortium participated as speakers at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) hosted this year in Genoa, Italy:

Dr. Portincasa from the University of Bari, Italy: Past-president and current chairman of ESCI and organizer of a workshop on Hepatology, Metabolism and Life Style.  At this workshop, Dr. Portincasa was in charge of the introduction and also gave a talk under the title “Multidisciplinary focus: chronic diseases”. Portincasa was a speaker at the second session of the workshop on Mitochondria Biology and Medicine where he gave a talk titled “The gut microbiota and metabolic disorders. Will mitochondria ever be involved?”.

Dr. Oliveira, from Coimbra University, Portugal: was one of the organizers of the workshop in Mitochondria Biology and Medicine and chairman of its first session; he was also the speaker of the talk “Targeting mitochondria with improved dietary antioxidants”. Dr. Oliveira also gave a talk promoting the ETN Foie Gras, European Network at the workshop on Hepatology, Metabolism and Life Style.

Dr. Paula Macedo from Portuguese Diabetic Patient Protection Association in Lisbon, Portugal: was a speaker at the workshop on Hepatology, Metabolism and Life Style, her talk was entitled “Studying the human liver samples”.

Dr. Gastaldelli from the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa, Italy: was the chairwoman of the poster session held at the workshop on Hepatology, Metabolism and Life Style and of the third session of the workshop on Mitochondria Biology and Medicine, in which she also gave a talk on”Hepatic lipotoxicity and mitochondrial dysfunction”

Dr. Wieckowski from the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology (NENCKI) in Warsaw University, Poland: was one of the organizers and chairman of the first session of the workshop in Mitochondria Biology and Medicine. He gave a talk on “Characterization of the mitochondrial bioenergetics, ROS and status of antioxidant defense system profiles in fibroblasts of patients showing mitochondrial abnormalities.  Dr Wieckowski was also together with Dr. Gastaldelli the chairman at the poster session of the workshop on Hepathology, Metabolim and Lifestyle.

Dr. Palmeira from Coimbra University, Portugal: was one of the organizers of the workshop in Mitochondria Biology and Medicine, where he also gave a talk on “Prevention of hepatic ischemia/reperfusion damage in a surgical context: The key role of preservation of mitochondrial function.

Dr. Kopecky from the Institute of Physiology of the CAS (IPHYS), Czech Repulbic: was a chairman of the second session of the workshop on Mitochondria Biology and Medicine, where he also gave a talk entitled “OXPHOS as a prerequisite for healthy adipocyte”.

Dr. Borges from the University of Porto, Portugal: was the chairwoman of the fifth session of the workshop on Mitochondria Biology and Medicine, in which she also gave a talk under the title “Mitochondria and drug discovery: challenges and prospects”.

Dr. Prip-Buus from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in Paris, France: was the speaker of the “Malonyl-CoA/CPT1 axis and muscle pathophysiology” talk at the Mitochondria Biology and Medicine worshop.

Dr. Rodrigues from the Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa (FFUL) in Lisbon, Portugal: was the speaker of the talk “miRNAs as biomarkers and regulators of liver disease”.

Dr. Jones from the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) in Coimbra, Portugal: was the speaker of the talk “Tracking the multiple fates of Acetyl-CoA in the liver using stable isotope tracers” at the workshop Mitochondrial Biology and Medicine.

Dr. Rosselló-Catafau from the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona (IBB-CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain: was the speaker of the talk “The role of mitochondria in fatty liver graft preservation: an approach to different preservation solutions” featured on the workshop on Mitochondria Biology and Medicine.
